A concentrate composition is disclosed which comprises (a) a blend of (i) a metal sulfonate and (ii) an alkali or alkaline earth metal or zinc salt of a carboxylic acid and (b) a carrier. The composition is useful as a rust- and corrosion-inhibitor in a petroleum or synthetic base medium and is capable of maintaining metal sulfonate content at temperatures greater than 150°C., e.g., 200°C., for 20 hours.
Lubricant compositions, especially suitable as gear oils, containing sulphur-containing extreme pressure or anti-wear agents, are improved by incorporation of an oil-soluble salt of an amine and a weak acid or amino acid. The resulting compositions confer extended life on gears operated in them.
A liquid extreme pressure agent for use in lubricating compositions where the lubricating compositions comprise an oil of lubricating viscosity and the reaction product of: (a) a thiazole; (b) a composition comprising a carboxylic acid, a phosphorus containing acid or salt, or combinations thereof; and (c) an amine containing one or more branched hydrocarbyl groups. The invention also provides an additive composition comprising the reaction product described above and a process for making lubricating compositions, including greases, from the reaction product.
