  pH值低于约 8.5，将4a-羟基-5-乙基-3-甲基-荧光黄素（2）转化为螺（咪唑-4,2-喹喔啉）（3），但在pH 8.5–10.5之间，产物为1,6， 7-三甲基-4-乙基喹喔啉-2,3-二酮（4）伴随少量（3）；在强碱性条件下，产物（4）伴有痕量的暂时鉴定为咪唑并[4,5- b ]喹喔啉酮（6）的物质；从（2）的水解的pH依赖性出发，对于4a-羟基质子的解离动力学p K app＝ 9.9。
