  A new photolabile linker enabling nucleophilic cleavage of a carboxyl functionality upon irradiation with UV light (> 290 nm) was developed. When the photocleavage is carried out in the presence of primary or secondary amines, amides are obtained in high yields and purities, while the intramolecular version of this reaction leads to heterocycles via a cyclorelease mechanism.

  (EN) A process for making 2,5-morpholinediones of structure (I), wherein each R is independently hydrogen, C1-C12 hydrocarbyl, or substituted hydrocarbyl and at least one R is C1-C12 hydrocarbyl or C1-C12 substituted hydrocarbyl, by reacting an ester of free acid of an N-($g(a)-hydroxyacyl)-$g(a)- amino acid substrate of structure (II) wherein each R and R3 is independently hydrogen, C1-C12 hydrocarbyl or C1-C12 substituted hydrocarbyl and wherein at least one R is C1-C12 hydrocarbyl or C1-C12 substituted hydrocarbyl, over a fixed bed catalyst, the reaction being carried out at about 150 °C to about 350 °C, followed by collection of the effluent product. Such morpholinediones are useful as precursors for the preparation of depsipeptide polymers and copolymers.(FR) Un procédé permet de produire des 2,5-morpholine-diones de structure (I) où chaque R représente indépendamment hydrogène, C1-C12 hydrocarbyle, ou hydrocarbyle substitué et au moins un R représente C1-C12 hydrocarbyle ou hydrocarbyle substitué par C1-C12. On fait réagir un ester d'acide libre d'un substrat d'acide aminé N-($g(a)-hydroxyacyle)-$g(a)-présentant la structure (II) où chaque R et R3 représente indépendamment hydrogène, C1-C12 hydrocarbyle ou hydrocarbyle substitué par C1-C12 et où au moins R représente C1-C12 hydrocarbyle ou hydrocarbyle, substitué par C1-C12 la réaction s'effectuant sur un catalyseur à lit fixe à une température entre 150 et 350 °C environ et étant suivie d'une collecte du produit effluent. De telles morpholine-diones se révèlent utiles comme précurseurs servant à préparer des polymères et copolymères de depsipeptides.
