Some novel ortho-substituted BINOL-derived bisphosphorous ligands (o-BINAPO and o-NAPHOS) were synthesis from readily available (S)-BINOL; these ligands showed excellent enantioselectivities (up to 99% ee) in Rh(I)-catalyzedasymmetrichydrogenation of functionalizedolefins.
