    There are provided a thermochromic opaque composition capable of exhibiting change in transparency together with change in color in response to temperature variation, a laminate member employing the same, and a three-dimensional article capable of concealing and revealing the interior, utilizing the laminate member. The thermochromic opaque composition is formed by dispersing a thermochromic material, capable of developing and erasing color by an electron donating-accepting reaction, in small particles in vinyl chloride-vinyl acetate matrix resin. The above-mentioned structure realizes reversible change in transparency, together with change in color, in response to temperature variation, with hysteresis with a temperature difference of 10°C at minimum to 50°C between the high and low trigger temperatures.

    A thermochromic opaque/transparent composition is capable of exhibiting change in transparency together with change in color in response to temperature variation, a laminate member employing the same, and a three-dimensional article capable of concealing and revealing the interior, utilizing the laminate member. A thermochromic opaque/transparent composition is composed of dispersion, in vinyl chloridevinyl acetate copolymer matric resin, which has been obtained by blending with hindered amine compound selected from piperidine derivatives within a particle size range of 0.1 to 2.0 µm, of a reversible thermochromic material consisting of (a) an electron-donating color-developing organic compound, (b) a compound having a phenolic hydroxyl radical, and (c) a homogeneous fused composition containing a compound selected from alcohols, esters, ketones and carboxylic acids, and capable of exhibiting reversible change in transparency together with change in color in response to temperature variation, with hysteresis with a temperature difference of 10°C to 50°C between the low and high trigger temperatures.

    A temperature-dependent colored/transparent resin composition which comprises a vinyl chloride-vinyl acetate-copolymer matrix resin and dispersed and fixed therein as small particles capable of exhibiting by thermal hysteresis a reversible change between colored and transparent states a mutually dissolved homogenous composition of (A) an electron-donating color-developing organic compound, (B) a compound having a phenolic hydroxyl group and (C) a compound selected from alcohols, esters, ketones and carboxylic acids, has its transparency improved by blending the matrix resin with a vinyl chloride-vinyl acetate-vinyl alcohol copolymer and/or a vinyl chloride-vinylidene chloride copolymer.

    A reversible thermochromic composition comprises (a) an electron-donating color-developing organic compound, (b) at least one electron-accepting compound selected from alkoxyphenols compounds of the formula and (c) a compound serving as a reaction medium capable of causing a reversible electron-donating/accepting reaction attributable to components (a) and (b). This composition has a reversible metachromatic function; in one aspect, it presents a color-developed state when heated from a color-extinguished state and presents the color-extinguished state when cooled from the color-developed state; in another aspect, it begins to develop color during the course of being cooled after having been heated, color development having been triggered by the temperature rise when being heated in a color-extinguished state, and returns to the color-extinguished state after presenting a maximum developed-color density.
