  (EN) A process for the nitration of an aromatic or heteroaromatic compound with a nitrating agent comprising nitric acid or a mixture of nitric and sulphuric acids, characterised in that nitration is performed in a solvent comprising at least 50 % v/v of a C1-C6 alkyl ester of a C1-C4 carboxylic acid. The process is of particular use for the nitration of diphenyl ethers to give compounds which are useful as herbicides or as intermediates in the synthesis of herbicides.(FR) La présente invention a trait à un procédé de nitration d'un composant aromatique ou hétéroaromatique avec un agent de nitration comprenant de l'acide nitrique ou un mélannge d'acide nitrique et d'acide sulfurique, la nitration étant caractérisée par le fait qu'elle est réalisée dans un solvant composé d'au moins 50 % v/v d'alkyl ester en C1-C6 d'un acide carboxylique en C1-C4. Le processus s'utilise tout particulièrement dans la nitration des éthers diphénilyques afin de fournir des composants utilisés comme herbicides ou comme intermédiaires dans la synthèse des herbicides.
