A systematic study of photochemical behaviour of 3,4-epoxyprecocene-I and related epoxychromans was undertaken. Upon irradiation in acetone or cyclohexane, 3,4-epoxyprecocene-I was found to undergo photoisomerisation to the corresponding 3-chromanone .
