α-Chloro-, α,α-dichloro- and α,α,α-trichloroimines were conveniently reduced by borane-methyl sulfide in dichloromethane into the corresponding 6-chloroamines. This synthetic procedure was applied to the synthesis of N-(4-methoxyphenyl)-[2,2,2-trichloro-1-(4-methoxyphenyl)]ethylamine,which is a known insecticide.

The reaction of organometallic reagents, e.g. alkyllithiums, cuprates and alkylcoppers, with α-haloimines gave selectively a variety of synthetically usefulreactions, including coupling to 1,4-diimines, homologation, and production of heterocycles.
