    This invention relates to silicone pressure-sensitive adhesives having improved viscosity stability and film physical property stability upon aging by a method comprising the condensation of a benzene-soluble resin copolymer of 0.6 to 0.9 triorganoxiloxy units per SiO4/2 unit which contains silicon-bonded hyroxyl radicals and a polydiorganosiloxane preferably containing silicon-bonded hydroxyl or other hydrolyzable endblocking radicals with a sufficient amount of an endblocking agent containing endblocking triorganosilyl units such as hexamethyldisilazane or trimethylmethoxysilane to result in a 1:0.8 to 1:3 mole ratio of silicon-bonded hydroxyl radicals and hydrolyzable endblocking radicals to total moles of triorganosilyl units provided by the endblocking agent. The condensation is conducted, when desirable, in the presence of a catalytic amount of a mild silanol condensation catalyst if one is not provided by endblocking agent and, when necessary, in the presence of an effective amount of an organic solvent such as xylene. Condensation is preferably conducted with heating under solvent reflux conditions.

    This invention relates to an improved transdermal drug delivery device for the controlled transdermal delivery of amino-functional drugs. The improvement resides in providing the device with a silicone pressure-sensitive adhesive layer which has been chemically treated to reduce the silicon-bonded hydroxyl content of the pressure-sensitive adhesive composition to render the adhesive layer resistant to loss of tack and preserve the instant adherence of the device to the skin of a wearer during storage and while the device is being worn. Preferably, the composition used comprises a silicon-bonded hydroxyl radical containing resinous copolymer of R3SiO1/2 units and Si04;2 units and a polydiorganosiloxane which have been chemically treated with R3SiO1/2 units where R is preferably a hydrocarbon radical such as a methyl group to reduce the silicon-bonded hydroxyl content of the adhesive and thereby its sensitivity to amino-functional drugs.

    A transdermal drug delivery device for the controlled transdermal delivery of an active pharmaceutical agent is disclosed. The device comprises a drug delivery device comprising an active pharmaceutical agent and a means for its controlled delivery through the skin; and (B) a silicone pressure sensitive adhesive for maintaining contact between the device and the skin of a wearer. The silicone pressure sensitive adhesive comprises silicone resin copolymer and a polydiorganosiloxane and has a silanol concentration in the range of between 8000 and 13,000 ppm. The present invention also teaches methods for producing the above silicone pressure sensitive adhesive compositions.
