Biological evaluation of the designed substance as well as that of its enantiomer gave, contrary to expectations, comparable IC50 values. Several tetracyclic molecules were prepared by diene-transmissive DielsAlder cycloadditions. Control over the stereochemical outcome of the cycloaddition was achieved and the structural features of the precursors affecting the stereochemistry is discussed.
