An optical disk comprising a pair of substrates (1, 1'), each having a recording surface (2, 2') and a reflective layer in superposition on one side (3, 3'), is disclosed. Such an optical disk has satisfactory shear adhesive strength and peeling strength under high temperature and high moisture conditions.

Provided is a method for producing a surface treated base including a process of preparing a masking solution by heating a masking agent including paraffin to a temperature more than the melting point of the paraffin, a process of patterning the masking solution on a substrate to form a mask pattern, a process of surface treating the substrate having the mask pattern and a process of producing the surface treated base by removing the masking agent constituting the mask pattern using a refrigerant having a temperature less than the melting point of the paraffin. The masking agent is readily removed without adversely affecting the formed pattern after surface treatment.

Heat-expandable microcapsules each having a core/shell structure which comprises a core and a shell, wherein the core comprises a volatile substance and the shell comprises a polymer, the polymer being obtained by reacting a monomer mixture with an organic peroxide represented by general formula (1). The heat-expandable microcapsules of the present invention have such excellent heat resistance that a yielding phenomenon can be inhibited in a wide temperature range and have a high expansion ratio. (In formula (1), the R1 moieties each independently represent a C2-12 unsaturated hydrocarbon group, the unsaturated hydrocarbon group being optionally separated by one or more of -CO-O-, -O-CO-, and -O-.)
