[Ru(PhCOO)(CO)2(PhCOOH)]2, the catalyst, indicates that the active catalytic species are mononuclear ruthenium complexes. A stoichiometric reaction modelled on the catalytic reaction was monitored by infrared spectroscopy and finally quenched with PPh3.
