A tandem sulfenylation/cyclization method to build the scaffold of methylthiofurans with homopropargylic alcohols and DMTSM has been developed. The DMTSM is employed as methylthiolation agent for the CS bond formation in this transformation. Various substituted homopropargylic alcohols proceed successfully and the corresponding 3-methylthiofurans are afforded in ideal yields under mild conditions.
