It further relates to the use of said compounds (I) as selective metalloprotease inhibitors, especially matrix metalloproteases 12 (MMP-12) and/or 9 (MMP-9). The compounds (I) are particularly useful for the prevention and/or treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), particularly emphysema induced by cigarette smoke.
