DBU-mediated transformation of arylmethylenecyclopropenes to alkylidenecyclopropanes

An interesting DBU-mediated intramolecular isomerization of arylmethylenecyclopropenes 1 to alkylidenecyclopropanes (ACPs) has been described in this context. A variety of ACPs were obtained through a base-assisted manner in moderate to good yields under mild conditions with good stereoselectivities in most cases. (C) 2013 Elsevier Ltd. A twofer: The title reaction sequence for cyclopropenes allows the preparation of aldehydes bearing α‐quaternary stereocenters in a one pot‐reaction from readily available starting materials. Through a diastereodivergentcarbometalation reaction, both enantiomers of the corresponding aldehyde were obtained from the same cyclopropene derivative (see scheme).
