While the introduction of methoxy groups at meta-positions does not influence the photoisomerization of DSBP, the introduction of methyl substituents at the biphenyl moiety (MDSBP) changed the photoisomerization from one-way cis-to-trans photoisomerization for DSBP to cis–trans mutual photoisomerization for MDSBP
