The reaction of nitriles with alkenyldiazo compounds in the presence of gold catalysts provides functionalized pyrrole derivatives in moderate to high yields. This formal [3+2] cyclization reaction takes place with complete regioselectivity. The observed regiochemical outcome suggests the attack of the nitrile to the terminal position of the alkenylgold carbenoid (vinylogous reactivity). A broad range
A Rh(I)-catalyzed carbocyclization reaction of allene-ynones affords functionalized 2-alkylidene-3-vinylcyclohexenones and 2-alkylidene-3-vinylcyclopentenones. The scope, limitations, and utility of this triene-forming protocol have been examined and the results reported within.

The coupling of rhodium carbenoids from vinyl diazoacetates with 2-thio-3-alkyl indoles was found to generate C(3) quaternarysubstitutedindolines via a thionium ylide-initiated [3,3]-sigmatropic rearrangement.

The rhodium(II) acetate catalysed decomposition of diethyl 4-diazopent-2-enedioate in the presence of furans results in the formation of products derivedfrom a [3 + 4] cycloaddition.

Rhodium(II) acetate catalyzed decomposition of vinyldiazomethanes in the presence of N-alkoxycarbonylpyrroles provides a direct entry to the skeleton of tropane alkaloids. Similar reactions with N-alkylpyrroles result in the formation of alkylation products.
