Cross-linked amphiphile constructs that form self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) on metal surfaces such as gold surfaces are disclosed. These new SAMs generate well packed and highly oriented monolayer films on gold surfaces. A method for using the SAMs in the fabrication of biomolecule sensors is also disclosed.
Allenol Ether Intermediates in the Synthesis of 1,7-Dioxaspiro[5.5]undec-4-enes and 1,6-Dioxaspiro[4.5]dec-3-enes

Sequential dialkylation of methoxyallene via the corresponding lithium derivatives gives 1,3-dialkylated methoxyallenes which undergo acid-catalysed ring closure to 1,7-dioxaspiro[5.5]undec-4-enes. Similarly, cyclic allenol ethers (2-vinylidenetetrahydropyrans) generated by rearrangement of 2-alkynyltetrahydropyrans cyclise on treatment with acid to give 1, 6-dioxaspiro[4.5]dec-3-enes.
The scope and limitations of the ruthenium-catalyzedpropargylic substitution reaction of propargylicalcohols with heteroatom-centered nucleophiles are presented. Oxygen-, nitrogen-, and phosphorus-centered nucleophiles such as alcohols, amines, amides, and phosphine oxide are available for this catalytic reaction. Only the thiolate-bridged diruthenium complexes can work as catalysts for this reaction
