A transition-metal-free method for the synthesis of indolines has been developed. In the presence of K2CO3, the cyclization reaction of N-(ortho-chloromethyl)arylamides and iodonium ylides proceeded smoothly at room temperature in moderate to good yields.

A newroute for the synthesis of 2(5H)-furanones is presented via Pd(PPh3)4-catalyzed cascade reaction of acetlenic acids with iodonium ylides using K2CO3 as the base. The cascade proceeds through dehydrogenation coupling and cyclization under mild conditions.
