A synthetic approach to the CD-ring system of vitamin D3 is described in which intramolecular Diels-Alder reactions of chiral dienynylsulfoximes proceed in excellent yields. The effect of matched and mismatched carbon and sulfur configuration on the stereoselectivity of cycloaddition is reported.
