It occurs at room temperature with aromatic, heteroaromatic, and aliphatic aldehydes. In this reaction initial condensation of 2-aminobenzylamine with appropriate aldehydes afforded a tetrahydroquinazoline intermediate which underwent oxone-mediated ring distortion to afford the desired compounds
