Abstract α‐Amino phosphonates are synthesized by three component condensation of aldehydes, amines, and diethyl phosphite using ceric ammonium nitrate at room temperature to afford the corresponding α‐amino phosphonates in high yields. #IICT Communication No. 020214. ‡Dedicated to Professor Goverdhan Mehta on his 60th Birthday.
A novel and convenient approach for the synthesis of vinylphosphonates has been developed, utilizing an aromatic aza-Claisen rearrangement of β,γ-unsaturated α-aminophosphonates. The synthetic utility of this method was further examined in a gram-scale synthesis. The DFT calculations have provided insights into the basis of the reaction mechanism.
