The invention refers to a method for improving the compliance with quality specifications of cork produced from Quercus suber L. wherein said method comprises applying to the surface of the tree, after extracting the cork plank, an effective amount of a composition comprising kaolinite.
The method of invention solves several problems associated to biotic or abiotic factors that may affect the quality of produced cork and the proper growing of the tree itself. The method contributes to a better recovering of the plant after extracting the cork plank from the tree, namely avoiding an interruption of its physiologic activities. The method of the present invention prevents formation of 2,4,6-Tricloroanisole, reduces the porosity of the cork and decreases the stress after extracting the cork plank from the tree.
