  A novel toxin-producing isolate of the fungus Beauveria bassiana which produces metabolities, mainly oosporin and analogs thereof, is disclosed. Biopesticides prepared from a sporulated biomass produced by submerged fermentation of the fungus in combination with the toxic metabolites produced by the fungus provide high virulency for control of pests. The novel fungus is Beauveria bassiana ATCC 74037. Also disclosed is a method of using the fungus to produce the toxin oosporin, and analogs thereof, in high yields using a submerged fermentation process.
