and alkyl amines without adding any photocatalysts, transition-metal catalysts, or ligands. A novel photoactivated electron donor–acceptor complex was proposed as the key intermediate. This protocol offers a new approach towards di-aryl dithiocarbamates, thus promising their potential applications in pharmaceutical chemistry and sulfur chemistry.
A new series of carbapenems, in which disubstituted-aminothiocarbonylthio moiety, directly attached to the C-2 position, were prepared and evaluated for their antibacterial potency. These analogs showed potent activity against high-level MRSA, Among them, 9e and 9i were found to exhibit good in vivo efficacy comparable to that of vancomycin, for mouse septicemia model with high-level MRSA. Novel dithiocarbamate carbapenems with anti-MRSA activity
A new series of 1 beta-methyl carbapenems, in which a disubstituted-aminothiocarbonylthio moiety was attached to the C-2 position of the carbapenem nucleus, were prepared and evaluated for anti-MRSA activity. These derivatives showed good in vitro antibacterial activity against high-level MRSA, and the finding of good affinity for PBP-2' supported these results. Some of the compounds having favorable protein-binding affinity showed excellent in vivo anti-MRSA activity. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.

The preparation of N-methyl,N-phenyl-dithiocarbamate mononuclear rhodium(I) complexes is described, and their capability to act as metalloligands for the controlled construction of binuclear dithiocarbamate-bridged species of general formula [Rh-2mu-S2CN(Me)(Ph)}(COD)L-2]BF4 is investigated. Although in the mononuclear complexes the dithiocarbamate group coordinates as an S,S'-chelate ligand, in the reported binuclear compounds this ligand shows a novel bridging eta(2),eta(2)(S,S') coordination mode. EHT calculations based on these binuclear complexes indicate the intermetallic symmetric mu-eta,(2) eta(2)(S,S') coordination to be the most stable situation.
