    This invention relates to a topical composition for treating amino acid based substrates comprising a protected thiol compound having the formula R—(S—Pr) m where R is a functional group, S is sulfur, and Pr is a heterocyclic protecting group, and m is an integer between 1 and 100. The invention further relates to systems which comprise this protected thiol compound and an activating mechanism. The protected thiol compounds of the present invention may be used in hair care compositions, textile care compositions, cosmetic compositions, oral care compositions, skin care, nail care, laundry care, acne care and animal care compositions. Preferred embodiments of the present invention provide a modified UV absorber and a modified antioxidant, methods for making them and compositions conprising them.

  • A new imidazolium/sulfonamide linked ferrocene-dansyl dyad for dual-channel recognition of anion

    A new ferrocene-dansyl dyad (Fc-DAS), in which the ferrocene unit and the dansyl fluorophore are linked by the imidazolium and the sulfonamide groups, has been designed. The recognition ability of probe toward various anions (H2PO4-, F-, Cl-, Br-, I- and AcO-) has been investigated by fluorescent spectrum and electro-chemical techniques (differential pulse voltammetry and cyclic voltammetry). This probe shows fluorescent sensing of F- over other anions with a quenching effect in CH3CN solution. However, the electrochemical experiments reveal that the binding of H2PO4-, F- and AcO- anions leads the potential of probe a cathodic shift, with the shift magnitude H2PO4- > F- > AcO-. Furthermore, the binding mechanisms between Fc-DAS and anions have been investigated using H-1 NMR titration and density functional theory (DFT) calculations.
  • Ratiometric fluorescence probe for two-photon bioimaging of Cr3+ in living cells

    We presented a ratiometric fluorescent probe dansylamide-rhodamine dyad (DANS-RE) for selectively detecting Cr3+ in semi-aqueous solution. The detection mechanism relies on the fluorescent resonance energy transfer (FRET) process from the dansylamide (energy donor) to the rhodamine (energy acceptor) after the addition of Cr3+. The cell-permeability of DANS-RE was confirmed by the two-photon fluorescence microscopy experiments, which demonstrated DANS-RB was a good candidate for monitoring the intracellular Cr3+ level with the ratiometric fluorescent method. Combining the excellent selectivity, the ratiometric quantitative detection, and the cell-permeability, DANS-RB may find a broad application in the investigation on biologically relevant species in living cells.
