An efficientsynthesis of α-acylphosphoranes by palladium-catalyzed carbonylation of aryl iodides with carbon monoxide and stabilized phosphonium ylides has been developed. Featuring 44 examples, the protocol displayed a wide substrate scope under mild reaction conditions, showcasing its potential in synthetic organic chemistry.

synthesis of five-membered heteroarylethynes. The electron-impact induced fragmentation of the phosphoranes also produced ions corresponding in mass to the ethynes, but metastable ion data indicate that the extrusion of the ethyne follows the initial loss of H· from the molecularion.

α-Oxophosphonium ylides (3a–3e) react with N-chlorosuccinimide and N-bromosuccinimide in the presence of azidotrimethylsilane giving the corresponding haloazidoalkenes (4a–4g) with elimination of triphenylphosphine oxide. These compounds were completely converted to the 2H-azirines 5a–5g on heating in heptane.
