Herein, we describe a soluble iron(II)-phthalocyanine, [FeII(tBu4Pc)(py)2] (Pc = phthalocyaninato(2–)), as an effective catalyst in intramolecularC(sp3)–H bond amination, with alkyl azides as the nitrogen source, to afford the amination products in moderate to excellent yields with a broad substrate scope.

Fe(II)-phosphine complex [Fe(dpbz)]Cl2 was demonstrated to be effective for the intramolecularC(sp3)-H amination of organic azides. This catalyst exhibited a high catalytic capacity for the transformations from α-azido amides to imidazolinones. Cyclization of simple aliphatic azides can be realized as well by using [Fe(dpbz)]Cl2 as the catalyst.
The invention provides compounds of formula (I): or a salt thereof as described herein. The invention also provides pharmaceutical compositions comprising a compound of formula (I), processes for preparing compounds of formula (I), intermediates useful for preparing compounds of formula I and therapeutic methods for treating a Retroviridae viral infection including an infection caused by the HIV virus.
