A zinc(II)/NHC system catalyzes the borylation of aryl halides with diboron (4) reagents in the presence of KOMe at rt. This transformation can be applied to a broad range of substrates with high functional group compatibility. Radical scavenger experiments do not support a radical-mediated process.

The synthesis of a range of structurally diverse diarylmethanes via the Suzuki−Miyaura cross-coupling of aryl methane acetates and arylboronicacids is reported, including several challenging examples containing nitrogen, oxygen and sulfur heteroatoms in one or both coupling partners. A single set of optimized conditions was used to generate the diarylmethanes in 52–91% yield.

catalyze the reaction of bis(pinacolato)diboron with various aryl/benzyl halides to afford aryl/benzyl boronates in high yield. Arylboronates thus prepared, have been directly used in the Suzuki–Miyaura coupling reaction with different aryl halides and benzyl halides in a convenient one-pot, two-step solvent free green synthesis of unsymmetrical biaryls and diarylmethanes.
