    Copolyesters consisting essentially of terephthalic acid units and ethylene glycol units, and further comprising 1 to 4 mole % of alicyclic or aliphatic bifunctional compound units (a1) or 0.5 to 7 mole % of bifunctional compound units (a2) derived from a specific aromatic diol or bifunctional compound units (a3) derived from a condensed ring or ring assembly type aromatic dicarboxylic acid, 0.005 to 1 mole % of multi-functional compound units (b1), and a specific amount of monofunctional compound units (c); copolyesters having a specific intrinsic viscosity and consisting essentially of terephthalic acid units and ethylene glycol units, and further comprising 0.5 to 7 mole % of the above bifunctional compound units (a2) and 0.005 to 1 mole % of specific multi-functional compound units (b2) or (b3); and copolyesters consisting essentially of terephthalic acid units and ethylene glycol units, and further comprising 0.5 to 7 mole % of the above bifunctional compound units (a3) and 0.005 to 0.5 mole % of the multi-functional compound units (b1). These copolyesters have excellent melt moldability, in particular extrusion blow moldability and give molded articles having excellent transparency, impact resistance, gelation characteristics, appearance, tactility, mechanical properties, heat resistance, chemical resistance and dimensional precision.

    Disclosed are compatibilized polymer blends comprising polyester, polyamide and a compatibilizer. Such compatibilized polymer blends, in preferred embodiments, are fabricated into monolayer or multilayer preforms and/or containers. Containers comprising such blends exhibit good gas barrier properties against gases such as oxygen and carbon dioxide, have a good appearance and may be used as containers for a wide variety of consumer products, including beverages, edibles and cosmetics. In multilayer containers comprising one or more layers of the compatibilized polymer blend and one or more layers of PET or PET-containing copolymers, the present containers have greatly improved impact delamination resistance as compared to those formed using uncompatibilized blends.

    Disclosed are stabilized blends of polyester and polyamide. The polymer blends are stabilized with A) a combination of stabilizers a) acetaldehyde scavengers and b) stabilizers selected from phenolic antioxidants, organic phosphorus stabilizers and lactone stabilizers or B) a combination of c) lactone stabilizers and d) stabilizers selected from phenolic antioxidants and organic phosphorus stabilizers. The present blends exhibit reduced color formation, a high level of whiteness/brightness and acceptably low haze formation upon heat treatment. The blends are useful to make bottles, containers and films for drinks, food and cosmetics and the like. The polyester is in particular polyethylene terephthalate, PET, and the polyamide is in particular polyamide-MXD6. Heat treatment is for example melt extrusion or solid state polymerization, SSP.
