The present invention relates to a pyrrolopyridine derivative represented by the Chemical Formula I, and a racemate or a stereoisomer thereof, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, and relates to an antiviral composition including the same as an active ingredient. The compound of the Chemical Formula I has excellent antiviral activity and selectivity for wild type and resistant HIV-1, and thereby is useful as a therapeutic agent for acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS).

Efficient asymmetric alkylation of β,γ-unsaturated carboxylicacids without prior functionalization is enabled by chiral lithium amides. Enantioselectivity is imparted by a putative mixed lithium amide–enediolate aggregate that acts a traceless auxiliary formed in situ, allowing for a direct asymmetric alkylation and a simple recovery of the chiral reagent.

A direct, highly enantioselective alkylation of arylacetic acids via enediolates using a readily available chiral lithium amide as a stereodirecting reagent has been developed. This approach circumvents the traditional attachment and removal of chiralauxiliaries used currently for this type of transformation. The protocol is operationally simple, and the chiral reagent is readily recoverable.
