Difluorocarbene complexes are implicated in these reactions and a crystalline example of such a compound is RuCl2(CF2)(CO)(PPh3)2 derived from Ru(CF3)Cl(CO)(MeCN)(PPh3)2 and dry HCl gas in benzene solution. RUCl2(CF2)(CO)(PPh3)2 is readily hydrolysed to RuCl2(CO)2(PPh3)2, while Me2NH gives RuCl2(CFNMe2)(CO)(PPh3)2, MeOH gives RuCl2(CFOMe)(CO)(PPh3)2, and ethanediol gives RuCl2()(CO)(PPh3)2.

The compound Ru(CO)2(triphos) (triphos = MeC(CH2PPh2)3) reacts with a number of acid chlorides RR′CHCOCl to form [RuH(CO)2(triphos)]Cl and the corresponding substituted ketenes RR′CCO. A quantitative study of the reaction of Ph2CHCOCl shows that Ph2CCO is formed in a 1 : 1 stoichiometry. The compound Ru(CO)3(PPh3)2 also reacts with Ph2CHCOCl, forming Ph2CCO and the unstable hydride [RuH(CO)3(PPh3)2]Cl

Abstract Reactions of 4,6-dimethylpyrimidine-2-thiol (Me 2 pymSH) and its oxidation product bis(4,6-dimethylpyrimidine-2-yl)disulphide (Me 2 pymSSpymMe 2 ) with a range of platinummetalcomplexes are described. The chlorohydrides [MHCl(CO)(PPh 3 ) 3 ] (M=Ru, Os) react with Me 2 pymSH in refluxing toluene to afford [RuCl(Me 2 pymS)(CO)(PPh 3 ) 2 ] and [OsH(Me 2 pymS)(CO)(PPh 3 ) 2 ] (two isomers).
