Fluoroalkylated N-heteroarenes are efficiently synthesized from fluoroalkyl 2-azaheteroarylsulfones via Grignard reagent-promoted formal SO2 extrusion reaction. The reaction proceeds through the ligandcoupling of a pentacoordinate sulfur(VI) intermediate and exhibits unique fluorine effect.
