A metal complex of the general formula
[R1CSNRO]xM(L)y
where R and R1 are optionally substituted hydrocarbyl groups, M is a metal of Group IIIA to VA and IB to VIIB, with the exception of copper, L is a ligand, x has a value of 1 to 3 and y is zero or has a value of up to 4. The complex may be prepared by the reaction of a metal salt with an N-hydroxythiobenzamide. Complexes of this type have anti-microbial properties, and can be used as industrial biocides.
