products.2 Various methods have been reported for their preparation, mostly involving ester derivatives as starting material^.^.^ Most of the reported methods of transesterification of p-ketoesters are not general and are equilibrium driven reactions that require an excess of one of the reactants to obtain good yields. For example, 4-(dimethy1amino)pyridine (DMAP) catalyzed transe~terification~ required
