    The invention provides a method of efficient preparation of a precursor of a rare earth activated alkaline earth metal fluorohalide stimulable phosphor exhibiting superior plate characteristics, a rare earth activated alkaline earth metal fluorohalide stimulable phosphor obtained from the precursor and a radiation image conversion panel comprising the stimulable phosphor and exhibiting enhanced sensitivity and improved image quality. A preparation method of a precursor of a rare earth activated alkaline earth metal fluorohalide stimulable phosphor represented by formula (1) is disclosed, comprising step A of adding an aqueous solution of an inorganic fluoride into a mother liquor containing a barium halide to form a reaction mixture containing a precipitate of a precursor of the stimulable phosphor (time "a") and step B of removing a solvent from the reaction mixture (time "b"), in which the step A and step B are conducted concurrently and preparation is performed under the condition of 0.25 < a/b < 0.95.         Formula (1) Ba(1-x)M2(x)FBr(y)I(1-y) : aM1, bLn, cO
