    Disclosed is a blue light absorbing compound, its preparation method and use. The compound has high stability and is suitable for high temperature processing conditions as well as outdoor application. A method of covalently bonding a blue light absorbing compound with an ultraviolet light absorbing compound for increasing its stability is also provided. The compound is capable of absorbing or blocking ultraviolet light (UVA, UVB) and blue light to protect eyes. But long-wavelength blue light can be absorbed diminishingly, so that the transmitted light has a particularly good visual experience.

    Composition of matter useful as a multifunctional viscosity index improver for lubricating oils comprising reaction product of: (i) (a) degraded ethylene-alpha-olefin copolymer obtained by degrading undegraded copolymer of ethylene and at least one other alpha-olefin monomer, said undegraded copolymer comprising intramolecularly heterogeneous copolymer chains containing at least one crystallizable segment of methylene units and at least one low crystallinity ethylene-alpha- olefin copolymer segment, wherein said at least one crystallizable segment comprises at least about 10 weight percent of said copolymer chain and contains at least about 57 weight percent of said copolymer chain and contains at least about 57 weight percent ethylene, wherein said low crystallinity segment contains not greater than about 53 weight percent ethylene, and wherein said copolymer has a molecular weight distribution characterized by at least one of a ratio of M w/M n of less than 2 and a ratio of M Z/M w of less than 1.8 and wherein at least two portions of an individual intramolecularly heterogeneous chain, each portion comrising at least 5 weight percent of said chain, differ in composition form one another by at least 7 weight percent ethylene; said degraded copolymer grafted with (b) ethylenically monounsaturated carboxylic acid material having 1 to 2 carboxylic acid groups or anhydride group to form grafted degraded ethylene copolymer; and (ii) at least one polyamine containing one primary amino group and at least one tertiary amino group.

The ethylene alpha-olefin copolymers, before degradation, are characterized by having a narrow molecular weight distribution and are comprised of intramolecularly heterogeneous and intermolecularly homogeneous copolymer chains. The degraded copolymers are useful as viscosity index improvers for oils.

    Herstellung von Copolymerisaten aus Maleinsäuremonoalkylestern oder Maleinsäure und deren Salzen und Vinylalkylethern durch radikalische Copolymerisation von Maleinsäureanhydrid und Vinylalkylethern und anschließende Umsetzung mit Alkanol oder Wasser und gegebenenfalls Metallhydroxiden und/oder -oxiden, wobei in jeder Phase der Polymerisation die Vinylalkylether-Komponente im überschuß im Reaktionsgemisch vorliegt, die radikalische Copolymerisation in Aceton erfolgt und das Aceton während oder nach der Veresterung bzw. Hydrolyse destillativ entfernt wird, indem man als Polymerisationsinitiatoren Carbonsäureperoxyester, die sich von Carbonsäuren mit mindestens 8 C-Atomen ableiten, verwendet. Die erhaltenen Copolymerisate werden in kosmetischen Zubereitungen verwendet.
