    Tertiary nitrogen-containing chain-extended epoxy resins, capable of forming stable aqueous emulsions, may be produced by chain-extending an epoxy resin using a tertiary nitrogen containing ether or ester polyol for example, particularly, polycaprolactone which has been polymerisation initiated by a tertiary amine polyol such as N-methyl diethanolamine. The corresponding amine salt is formed by treatment with an acid for example acetic acid and the resulting cationic polymer may be dispersed in water to form a cationic emulsion capable of being coated onto a substrate by electrodeposition. The chain extended resins, by virtue of their content of free epoxy groups are also usable for cross-linking and other uses.

    A two-part composition comprising as a first part a polymerizable vinyl-type material and a free-radical polymerization system comprising at least one aromatic acyl peroxide and a compound selected from the group consisting of peroxides, hydroperoxides, peresters, persaits and peracids, exclusive of aromatic acyl peroxides; and as a second part a polymerizable vinyl-type material and an accelerator system comprising an amine and optionally either a sulfimide, an hydrazine derivative, or both. The resin systems of each part are substantially similar in rheology and viscosity to optimize the effectiveness of the adhesive composition. The composition combines anaerobic-type cure systems to obtain excellent cure through volume (CTV). The non-anaerobic-type cure system allows for the superior CTV capability over the prior art and is not dependent on metal ion catalysis for cure accleration. making the composition particularly useful on inactive surfaces such as plastics or aluminum.

    Reaction of a Mannich base compound, water and an epoxide, preferably at a temperature between 50 and 150°C, with subsequent removal of the water, gives a product useful as a polyol-catalyst composition that reacts with an isocyanate in the presence of a blowing agent to form rigid polyurethane cellular products having a high content of isocyanurate linkages, high heat distortion temperatures and good insulating properties.

    invention provides a process for the production of polyetherester polyols which have hydroxyester groups terminally bound via ester groups to high molecular weight polyether polyol segments. These are produced by first reacting high molecular weight polyoxyalkylene ether polyols with molecular weights of from about 400 to 10,000 with an excess of dicarboxylic acids, dicarboxylic acid anhydrides or dicarboxylic acid esters, and then reacting the intermediate product in a further stage with an excess of diols, based on carboxyl groups. The new, high molecular weight polyetherester polyols thus consist of polyoxyalkylene ether segments, which have terminal ester segments in each case with terminal hydroxyl groups per end group. Moreover, the use is claimed of the high molecular weight polyetherester polyols as polyhydroxyl compounds for forming polyurethanes.
