The invention relates to a process for the preparation of 4-phenylpyrrole derivatives of the formula I ##STR1## wherein R.sub.n, R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are as defined in claim 1, which comprises reacting a phenacylamine of formula II ##STR2## with a compound of formula III T--CH.dbd.CH--R.sub.1 (III) to give an intermediate of formula IV ##STR3## and cyclizing said intermediate, in the presence of a base, to give the compound I. Important intermediates and novel final products are also described.
