    The present invention relates to an acrylonitrile (ASA) type thermoplastic resin composition with excellent weatherability and appearance properties, and more particularly, to an acrylate-styrene-acrylonitrile type thermoplastic resin composition comprising a) an acrylate-styrene-acrylonitrile graft copolymer; b) a butadienc-acrylonitrile mcthylmethacrylate graft copolymer; c) a copolymer of aromatic vinyl compound and vinylcyanide compound; and d) an alkyl acrylate copolymer, which has remarkably improved appearance properties such as scratch resistance, color (color stability) and gloss as well as excellent basic properties and weatherability.

    Expandable thermoplastic polymer beads are described which comprise composite beads consisting of a core and a skin and containing a foaming agent; the core being composed of a polymer made from one or more vinyl monomers; the skin being composed of an olefin polymer containing some or all of said vinyl monomers; the foaming agent being a gas or a liquid at ordinary temperatures and pressures and having a boiling point below the softening point of the core material of the beads. Furthermore a process for the production of the expandable thermoplastic polymer beads is described, which comprises suspending grains of a vinyl polymer, a powdered olefin polymer, one or more vinyl monomers and a cross-linking agent in an aqueous medium containing a dispersing agent, and polymerizing the vinyl monomers in the presence of an initiator, wherein a foaming agent is added to the dispersion mixture during or after the polymerization or grains of the vinyl polymer containing the foaming agent are used as starting material, the foaming agent being a gas or a liquid at iordinary temperature and pressure.

    Disclosed are expanded shaped articles of a heat resistant synthetic resin which are obtained by pre-expanding expandable polymer particles containing a foaming agent, whose monomeric composition comprises 20 to 100% by weight of tertiary butyl styrene and 80 to 0% by weight of other polymerizable monomers, and heating the resulting preexpanded particles to thereby produce expanded shaped articles. Expanded shaped articles are also obtained by extrusion foaming.

    Curable molding compositions comprising a mixture of: I. from about 25 to about 90 weight percent of a thermosetting resin containing: (a) from about 5 to about 95 weight percent of a polyester resin derived from the reaction of a poly(acrylate) and a vinyl monomer, said poly(acrylate) and vinyl monomer essentially free from functional groups reactive with the polyol of the polyisocyanate of (b); (b) from about 95 to about 5 weight percent of a polyurethane derived from the reaction of a saturated polyol and a polyisocyanate, said polyol and polyisocyanate free from unsaturated groups capable of copolymerizing with the poly(acrylate) or vinyl monomer of (a); and II. from about 75 to about 10 weight percent of one or more fibers with a melting point or a glass transition temperature above about 130°C; wherein (b) constitutes less than 40 weight percent of (I) and (II). These compositions are especially suited to produce thermoset fiber-reinforced molded articles by rapid injection molding techniques.
