A method of making partially fluorinated ethers of the general formula (I) wherein Rf is defined as above, n is 0 or 1, and Z is nitrile (-CN), azide (-N3), thiocyanate (-SCN) or cyanate (-OCN) group, said method comprising treating a fluorinated olefin of the general formula (II) wherein the Z-anion is CN-, OCN-, SCN- or N3-. A compound of the general formula (I) as previously described where Z is selected from SCN, OCN and N3.

    A process for recovering a fluorinated carboxylic acid or salts thereof from exhaust gas streams. The process includes contacting the exhaust gas stream with a composition capable of at least partially removing the fluorinated carboxylic acid or salt thereof from the exhaust gas stream.     A method for removing a fluorinated carboxylic acid or salt thereof from an aqueous liquid by contacting the aqueous liquid with adsorbent particles. The fluorinated carboxylic acid or salt thereof is selected from the group consisting of (i) partially fluorinated carboxylic acids or salts thereof corresponding to the general formula: [PF 1 —O-L 1 -COO − ] i X i+ (I) wherein PF 1 represents a linear partially or fully fluorinated aliphatic group or a linear partially or fully fluorinated aliphatic group interrupted with one or more oxygen atoms, L 1 represents a linear partially or fully fluorinated alkylene group or an aliphatic hydrocarbon group with the proviso that when PF 1 is fully fluorinated, L 1 is a linear partially fluorinated alkylene group or an aliphatic hydrocarbon group, X i+ represents a cation having the valence i and i is 1, 2 or 3; and (ii) fully fluorinated carboxylic acids or salts thereof corresponding to one of the following general formulas: [PF 2 —O—(CF 2 ) p —COO − ] i X i+ (II) wherein PF 2 represents a linear fully fluorinated aliphatic group or a linear fully fluorinated aliphatic group interrupted with one or more oxygen atoms, p is an integer of 2 to 6 and X i+ and i have the same meaning as in formula (I); or [PF 3 -(L 2 ) f -O—CF 2 —COO − ] i X i+ (III) wherein PF 3 represents a linear fully fluorinated aliphatic group or a linear fully fluorinated aliphatic group interrupted with one or more oxygen atoms, L 2 represents —O(CF 2 ) x — wherein x is an integer of 1 or 3 to 6, —(O—CF 2 CF 2 ) s — wherein s is 1, 2 or 3 or —(OCF 2 ) u — wherein u is an integer of 1 to 6, f is 0 or 1 with the proviso that when f is 0, PF 3 represents F(CF 2 ) 1 — wherein 1 is 1, 2, 4, 5 or 6 and with the proviso that when f is 1 and L 2 represents —(O—CF 2 CF 2 ) s —, PF 3 represents CF 3 or CF 3 CF 2 and X i+ and i have the same meaning as in formula (I).

    A method of making a fluoropolymer dispersion by first providing a fluoropolymer dispersion comprising fluoropolymer particles and one or more fluorinated surfactants selected from fluorinated carboxylic acids or salts thereof having the general formula: [R f —O-L-COO − ] i X i+ (I) wherein L represents a linear partially or fully fluorinated alkylene group or an aliphatic hydrocarbon group, R f represents a linear partially or fully fluorinated aliphatic group or a linear partially or fully fluorinated aliphatic group interrupted with one or more oxygen atoms, X i+ represents a cation having the valence i and i is 1, 2 or 3; Then adding one or more non-fluorinated surfactants selected from anionic and non-ionic surfactants followed by reducing the total amount of the one or more fluorinated surfactants to an amount of not more than 500 ppm, for example not more than 250 ppm based on the total weight of the dispersion while maintaining or increasing the amount of solids in the dispersion.
