Thermotropic liquid-crystalline behavior of phosphonium salts, which are structurally simple amphiphiles with positively-charged phosphorus atoms and without rigid cores, was evaluated by differential scanning calorimetry, polarizing optical microscopy, and X-ray diffractometry.
