  The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of cyclic cis-diamines of formula wherein Q is selected from the group consisting of -CH2-, -CH(CH3)-, -C(CH3)2-, -(CH2)2-, -(CH2)3- and -(CH2)4-; n is an integer from 0 to 4; and each substituent R, if present, is independently a linear or branched C1-8 alkyl attached to any one of the depicted carbon atoms; starting from cyclic dienes such as cyclopentadiene and an azodicarboxylic acid derivative such as azodicarboxamide.
