    A catalyst composition and a process for hydrodealkylating a C 9 + aromatic compound such as, for example, 1,2,4-trimethylbenzene to a C 6 to C 8 aromatic hydrocarbon such as a xylene are disclosed. The composition comprises an alumina, a metal oxide, a phosphorus oxide and optionally, an acid site modifier selected from the group consisting of silicon oxides, sulfur oxides, boron oxides, magnesium oxides, tin oxides, titanium oxides, zirconium oxides, molybdenum oxides, germanium oxides, indium oxides, lanthanum oxides, cesium oxides, and combinations of any two or more thereof. The process comprises contacting a fluid which comprises a C 9 + aromatic compound with the catalyst composition under a condition sufficient to effect the conversion of a C 9 + aromatic compound to a C 6 to C 8 aromatic hydrocarbon.

    The subject invention relates to a process for preparing a catalyst system that comprises the sequential steps of (I) reacting an organometalic compound that contains a metal from Group III-B of the Periodic System with an organoaluminum compound at a temperature which is within the range of 50° C. to 100° C. to produce an aluminum modified Group III-B metal containing catalyst component, and (II) mixing the aluminum modified Group III-B metal containing catalyst component with a halogen containing compound to produce the Group III-B metal containing catalyst system, wherein the catalyst system is void of compounds selected from the group consisting of aliphatic alcohols, cycloaliphatic alcohols, aliphatic thiols, cycloaliphatic thiols, trialkyl silanols, and triaryl silanols, wherein the organometalic compound that contains a metal from Group III-B of the Periodic System is reacted with the organoaluminum compound in the absence of conjugated diene monomers, and wherein the catalyst system is prepared in the absence of compounds that contain labile halogen atoms.

    A process of modifying a zeolite catalyst to produce a modified zeolite catalyst wherein the modified zeolite catalyst has blocked pore sites. An oxygenated feed is flowed over the modified zeolite catalyst, wherein the oxygenated feed comprises hydrocarbons, methanol and dimethyl ether or a mixture thereof. The hydrocarbons, methanol and dimethyl ether in the oxygenated feed react with the modified zeolite catalyst to produce cyclic hydrocarbons, wherein the cyclic hydrocarbons produced has less than 10% durene and a median carbon number is C8.

    At least one decomposable compound selected from the group consisting of compounds of the metals of Group IIB and Group IIIB of the Periodic Table is mixed with a hydrocarbon-containing feed stream. The hydrocarbon-containing feed stream containing such decomposable compound is then contacted in a hydrofining process with a catalyst composition comprising a support selected from the group consisting of alumina, silica and silica-alumina and a promoter comprising at least one metal selected from Group VIB, Group VIIB and Group VIII of the Periodic Table. The introduction of the decomposable compound may be commenced when the catalyst is new, partially deactivated or spent with a benefical result occuring in each case.
