    The expanded particles of the present invention have two melting peaks on a DSC curve and are made from polyethylene resin particles which (i) contain an antistatic agent, (ii) have a storage modulus of elasticity of 900 Pa or more and 5000 Pa or less at an angular frequency of 1 rad/sec and (iii) have a storage modulus of elasticity of 100000 Pa or less at an angular frequency of 100 rad/sec, in dynamic viscoelastic behavior measurement at 190°C. From this, it is possible to provide expanded polyethylene resin particles which have a broad temperature range in molding process, and are excellent in appearance of a molded product and in physical properties (such as an antistatic property), without impairing productivity of resin particles which are a raw material of expanded particles.

    Expanded polyethylene resin particles include an antistatic agent and a base resin. The expanded polyethylene resin particles are obtained by expanding polyethylene resin particles including the antistatic agent and the base resin, the polyethylene resin particles having a storage modulus of elasticity of 900 to 5000 Pa at an angular frequency of 1 rad/sec in dynamic viscoelastic behavior measurement at 190° C. and a storage modulus of elasticity of 100000 Pa or less at an angular frequency of 100 rad/sec in dynamic viscoelastic behavior measurement at 190° C. The expanded polyethylene resin particles have a low temperature side melting peak and a high temperature side melting peak on a differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) curve obtained when a temperature of the expanded polyethylene resin particles is increased from 20° C. to 220° C. at a heating rate of 10° C./min.

    Disclosed is a method for improving the fuel economy of a heavy duty diesel engine which produces a heavily sooted lubricating oil composition during the engine's normal operation. The method involves introducing lubricating the heavy duty diesel engine with a heavy duty diesel engine lubricating oil composition comprising (a) a major amount of an oil of lubricating viscosity; and (b) a minor effective amount of an ashless friction modifier comprising a reaction product of a C4 to about C75 fatty acid ester and a mono- or dialkanolamine.
