  Fungicidal substituted triazolylmethylcarbinols of the formula ##STR1## in which n stands for the numbers 0 or 1, Ar stands for optionally substituted phenyl or for optionally substituted naphthyl, R.sup.1 stands for hydrogen, optionally substituted alkyl, optionally substituted alkenyl, optionally substituted alkinyl, optionally substituted aralkyl, cycloalkyl or optionally substituted heteroarylalkyl, R.sup.2 stands for alkyl, cycloalkyl, cycloalkylalkyl or alkenyl, R.sup.3 stands for methyl and R.sup.4 stands for methyl or R.sup.3 and R.sup.4 together stand for ethane-1,2-diyl, and addition products thereof with acids and metal salts. Intermediates of the formulas ##STR2## in which R.sup.6 stands for alkyl having more than one carbon atom, cycloalkyl, cycloalkylalkyl or alkenyl, are also new.

  4,4-Dimethyl-1-(p-chlor-phenyl)-pentan-3-on kann durch Kondensation von Pinakolon und p-Chlorbenzaldehyd in einem Alkohol als Lösungsmittel in Gegenwart einer anor­ganischen Base und durch anschließende Hydrierung herge­stellt werden, wobei man das bei der Kondensation erhal­tene Reaktionsgemisch direkt ohne Zwischenisolierung des 4,4-Dimethyl-1-(p-chlor-phenyl)-1-penten-3-ons nach Zu­gabe eines Hydrierkatalysators bei erhöhter Temperatur und überatmosphärischem Druck zum 4,4-Dimethyl-1-(p-­chlor-phenyl)-pentan-3-on hydriert, nach Abtrennung des Hydrierkatalysators vom flüssigen Hydriergemisch den Alkohol weitgehend abdestilliert und den Wassergehalt des Destillationssumpfes so einstellt, daß er sich in eine wäßrige und eine organische Phase trennt und das 4,4-Dimethyl-1-(p-chlor-phenyl)-pentan-3-on aus der organischen Phase gewinnt.

  4,4-二甲基-1-(对氯苯基)-1-戊-3-酮的制备方法是：在无机碱存在下，以醇为溶剂，使频哪酮和对氯苯甲醛缩合，然后进行氢化反应，其中缩合得到的反应混合物在加入氢化催化剂后，在高温和超大气压下直接氢化，而不需要中间分离 4,4-二甲基-1-(对氯苯基)-1-戊-3-酮，得到 4,4-二甲基-1-(对氯苯基)-3-戊酮、在高温和超大气压下加入氢化催化剂后得到 4,4-二甲基-1-(对氯苯基)-3-戊酮，从液态氢化混合物中分离出氢化催化剂后蒸馏掉大部分醇，调节蒸馏底部的水含量，使其分离成水相和有机相，从有机相中回收 4,4-二甲基-1-(对氯苯基)-3-戊酮。
