CP*CrCl2 (6) has been reacted with active magnesium (Mg*) and 2-butyne to yield Cr2[(CCH3)5]2(CCH3)4} (7) and Cr2[(CCH3)5]2(CCH3)6} (8) which are characterized by fly-over ligands. [Cr(CCH3)5(CCH3)6H] (9) and Cr2[(CCH3)5]2(CCH3)4H} (10) were obtained when MgH2 was used instead of Mg*. The structures of the compounds 7, 8, 9 and 10 were established by single-crystal X-ray analyses. Compound 7 crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P2(1)/n with a = 8.826(2), b = 19.505(3), c = 15.369(2) angstrom, beta = 100.11(1)-degrees, V = 2604.7 angstrom3, Z = 4. Compound 8 crystallizes in the monoclinic space group C2/c with a = 14.569(3), b = 10.720(2), c = 18.333(1) angstrom, beta = 102.69(1)-degrees, V = 2793.3 angstrom3, Z = 4. Compound 9 crystallizes in the triclinic space group P1 with a=8.801(l), b = 8.846(1), c = 13.532(1) angstrom, a = 78.91(l), beta = 85.66(1), gamma = 74.56(1)-degrees, V = 996.2 angstrom3, Z = 2. Compound 10 crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P2(1)/n with a = 8.765(1), b = 19.312(2), c = 15.082(1) angstrom, beta = 100.06(1)-degrees, V = 2513.7 angstrom3, Z = 4.
