C64 Nanographene Tetraimide – a Receptor for Phthalocyanines with Subnanomolar Affinity

Unsubstituted phthalocyanines are insoluble and thus challenging to dissolve as monomers in solution. Here a supramolecular host–guest strategy is described to solubilize phthalocyanines in organic solvents by complexation with a C64nanographenetetraimide. A subnanomolar binding affinity of C64 nanographene–phthalocyanine complex allowed the capture of phthalocyanines into the solution phase.
