The cationic Ru–H complex was found to be an effective catalyst for the intermolecular hydroacylation of aryl-substituted olefins with aldehydes to form branched ketone products. The preliminary kinetic and spectroscopic studies elucidated a ruthenium-acyl complex as the key intermediate species.
