    The mixed metal alkoxides BaBi(OR)5, where R is isopropyl or tertiary butyl, along with their potassium-doped modifications were prepared. These alkoxides were thermally decomposed, and the resulting perovskites BaBiO3 and K0.4Ba0.6BiO3 were characterized by elemental analysis and x-ray powder diffraction. The formation of the perovskites required temperatures in the 750-degrees-C to 800-degrees-C range. For the superconductor K0.4Ba0.6BiO3, the Meissner effect was observed.

    The formation behaviour of Bi2Sr2CaCu2Ox from compounds prepared by hydrolysis of metal alkoxides was studied and Bi2Sr2CaCu2Ox films on metal substrates were fabricated using a metal alkoxide solution. Bi2Sr2CaCu2Ox was formed through intermediate phases such as Bi2Sr2Cu1Ox, Bi2CuO4, SrCO3, CaCO3 and CuO. Bi2CuO4 was initially formed with SrCO3, CaCO3 and CuO, and then reacted with SrCO3 to form Bi2Sr2Cu1Ox
